Children's and Young Adult Writing Workshops

Join us for the Storylines Saturday Sessions featuring workshops and talks with award-winning and bestselling authors/ illustrators.

Heather McQuillan, Belinda O’Keefe, Gavin Bishop and James Norcliffe will each present a workshop to inspire both established and new writers. Te Awhi Rito New Zealand Reading Ambassador Alan Dingley will join Bill Nagelkerke and Telling Tales Bookseller to discuss what makes an memorable children’s book?

Choose from a range of workshops to suit all levels of writing experience.

Where: Halswell School, 1 School Road, Halswell, Christchurch.
Time: 12.30 – 4:30pm
Cost: Storylines members: $30 per session/$80 for three sessions
Non-Storylines members: $40 per session/$100 for three sessions

Session 1: 12.30 – 1.30pm

How to submit manuscripts to publishers with Belinda O’Keefe

OR

Who is your target audience? How should this shape your writing with James Norcliffe

Session 2: 1.50 – 2.50pm

Picture book and non-fiction writing – researching for the genre with Gavin Bishop

OR

Know your characters and they will take care of the plot. A how to find what your characters need and want as the plot unfolds with Heather McQuillan.

Session 3: 3.10 – 4.10pm

Panel Discussion: What makes a memorable children’s book?
