Miriama Kamo

Miriama Kamo (Ngāi Tahu/Ngāti Mutunga) is an award winning broadcaster and author. She released her first children’s book The Stolen Stars of Matariki, illustrated by Zak Waipara, in 2018. Her second book with Rangi Matamua and Isobel Joy Te Aho-White was released in 2022. Miriama is Ōtautahi-born and raised. She studied at Canterbury University and The Christchurch Broadcasting School before beginning work in the television industry.

Miriama is the host and a reporter for TVNZ’s flagship current affairs show Sunday and for Marae, the country’s leading bilingual current affairs programme. Miriama is a mother of two, a trustee on a number of charitable organisations including Kotahi Rau Pukapuka, as well as a mentor and the patron ‘Te Koruru’ of the New Zealander of the Year Awards.

Awards:

The Stolen Stars of Matariki was a finalist at the New Zealand Book Awards for Children and Young Adults for the Best First Book in 2019. In a world first, it was selected for play on the Alexa app. In 2020, the NZ Symphony Orchestra composed and performed a piece to read with the book.
